Getting Braces – What to Expect

You may need to get braces for yourself or your child if you need to have your teeth aligned. However, the process of getting braces may seem daunting as you feel uncertain about what will happen. The process of placing braces is a straightforward one, especially once you and your child understand what needs to be done before, during and after the braces are placed in the mouth. Getting braces can be a comfortable experience for your child when you work with the professionals at Ashburn Children’s Dentistry in Ashburn, VA.

What is the Process Like?

The procedure will start with a thorough cleaning of the teeth. Once the teeth are clean and dried, a type of dental glue will be placed on the surface of the teeth. This helps the brackets adhere to the tooth. A wire will then be drawn through the brackets to connect the brackets. The final step is the placement of elastic wires to hold the brackets in place.

Is the Process Uncomfortable?

Generally, the placement of braces does not cause much discomfort and is well-tolerated. So you and your child can head to our office without anxiety or worry about the procedure. Once the braces are placed, the teeth begin to feel the pressure of the wires. This may result in mild discomfort for up to a week. However, your child will eventually get used to it and any discomfort will fade.

It is important to follow our dentist’s instructions closely to ensure a safe and worry-free dental experience. Ways to enhance healing after getting braces can be discussed with you and your son or daughter during a consultation.

Getting braces can be a pleasant and well-tolerated experience if you know what to expect. Head to our team of professionals at Ashburn Children’s Dentistry in Ashburn, VA and begin the journey to getting your kid’s teeth aligned. Contact us today to book a consultation for your child.
