If you want to learn more about our philosophy, unique evaluation and treatment process, and/or our technology, we invite you to schedule a discovery session. Please explore the sections below to read about our advanced technology and learn how and why we use it:

CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography)

Our CBCT system gives our dentists the clearest view of each patient’s mouth, jaw, and airways. The scans generated with this system allow us to perform comprehensive evaluations related to the health and function of key internal structures.

CBCT stands for cone beam computed tomography. This type of advanced imaging system generates high-resolution 3D images of the areas being examined. The detailed CBCT images surpass the quality of traditional dental X-rays, clearly showing bone, dental structures, nerves, and soft tissue, which allows our pediatric dentists to formulate accurate diagnoses and aids in precise treatment planning. Our CBCT system can capture a variety of images and angles, some of which include a panoramic scan of your child’s mouth, a Ceph scan (a scan of the side of the cranium), and an airway scan that can evaluate breathing challenges and capabilities. CBCT scans represent the most advanced level of diagnostic imaging a dental practice can provide and we are proud to be able to offer our patients this incredible technology in the comfort of our office.

Fotona LightWalker® Dental Laser

The powerful and versatile Fotona LightWalker® represents the latest in dental laser technology and assists our dentists in a wide array of treatments.

The high-performance Fotona LightWalker offers an impressive degree of treatment versatility. From soft tissue to hard tissue procedures, LightWalker delivers outstanding precision and speed, while optimizing patient comfort and treatment efficiency.

Low Level Laser Therapy

Low level laser therapy allows us to use the power of light energy to enhance treatment comfort and outcomes.

Low level lasers, which are also called “soft” or “cold” lasers, can be used in dentistry for a variety of exciting applications. We use low level laser therapy to primarily treat pain and inflammation non-invasively, with a 85 – 95% efficacy rate and no negative side effects. When utilized by our experienced dentists, low level lasers can be used to accelerate healing and tissue repair, control inflammation, reduce scar formation, promote wound healing, stimulate bone repair/remodeling, and reduce discomfort. This type of laser does not generate heat and simply exposes targeted tissue to light particles, producing therapeutic benefits with no side effects.

SOPROLIFE® Intraoral Cameras

SOPROLIFE® intraoral cameras help us better identify tooth decay in its earliest stages.

Among the newest technological advancements in our office are our SOPROLIFE® (LIFE stands for light induced fluorescence evaluator) HD Intraoral Cameras. We use this laser high-definition intraoral camera as a part of every dental exam to evaluate teeth and detect areas of decay that the naked eye and X-rays can sometimes miss. This advanced camera can even illuminate decay on the viewing screen to help show you where your dentist is looking, point out specific areas of concern, and differentiate the degree of decay that is present. Most importantly, our SOPROLIFE cameras help provide more accurate diagnoses when decay is in its earliest stages and enable our dentists to proceed with the most effective and conservative approach for treatment.

iTero Element® 5D Imaging System

The iTero Element® 5D Imaging System is the most advanced intraoral scanner available. This versatile technology allows our dentists to capture detailed 3D scans of the teeth for a variety of applications.

When it comes to 3D imaging, the iTero Element® 5D intraoral scanner and imaging system represents the pinnacle of today’s dental technology. This dynamic system is one of our most powerful diagnostic and treatment planning tools. The iTero Element® 5D operates without radiation and can be used to create 3D digital impressions, capture clear oral scans, detect caries between teeth, and perform digital treatment simulation. The beautiful digital display allows patients and their parents to visualize problem areas and engage with treatment plans in an interactive way. Treatment progress can also be visualized with this system to show patients how their smile is improving with each visit.

DEXIS CariVu™

DEXIS CariVu™ makes it easier for our dentists to identify vulnerable areas of the teeth that can benefit from protective sealants to prevent decay.

The portable DEXIS CariVu™ device helps our dentists detect carious lesions (or “caries”), which are areas of tooth demineralization that have occurred, leaving the tooth more vulnerable to decay. DEXIS CariVu uses transillumination technology to make caries and cracks more apparent at the earliest stage so that effective intervention can be performed to reinforce the tooth and prevent the development of more serious decay.

Digital X-Rays

Digital X-rays are a safer, more effective alternative to conventional X-rays. They also provide clearer images that can help us identify dental and oral health problems in their earliest stages.

At Ashburn Children’s Dentistry we offer the latest in digital X-ray technology to detect a broad spectrum of dental and oral health problems our patients may be experiencing. Unlike conventional X-rays—which were time-consuming, emitted dangerous levels of radiation, and did not always produce the highest-quality diagnostic images—our advanced digital X-ray system is quicker and safer, and provides high-resolution images that can be easily enlarged for closer inspection. Digital X-rays are an important part of annual dental examinations, allowing our dentists to identify problems early and keep a close watch on emerging issues. When patients come in with specific complaints, various types of digital X-rays (periapical, panoramic, and cephalometric radiographs) can provide images that are key to achieving accurate diagnoses and planning successful treatment.

SmileLase™

SmileLase™ uses infrared light energy to deliver healing and comfort to areas of the head and neck for restored function.

Quick, customized SmileLase treatments allow our dentists to connect neurologic pathways that may be preventing proper function and causing discomfort. These touch-free, infrared healing treatments are based on cutting-edge scientific research and technological advancements to benefit complex patients affected by irregular development, pain, and/or trauma. SmileLase is FDA-approved and provides our dentists with yet another state-of-the-art treatment option for safely and effectively improving patients’ health and facial beauty.

WatchPAT® Home Sleep Test

WatchPAT® makes it easy to collect important sleep study data at home, while your child rests comfortably in his or her own bed.

We offer at-home WatchPAT® sleep study tests to help diagnose pediatric sleep apnea and other sleep-disturbing breathing issues. The WatchPAT system from Itamar™ Medical makes the sleep study process simple. The comfortable, non-intrusive equipment is worn while your child sleeps and collects all the important data needed to make an accurate diagnosis. The data collected by WatchPAT is sent to a licensed sleep physician in Washington State for interpretation and diagnosis. Best of all, results are received within 15 minutes of downloading the data! Our dentists recommend WatchPAT for children who are 65 pounds or more, typically while other diagnostic records are being obtained.

High Resolution Pulse Oximetry (HRPO)

High resolution pulse oximetry (HRPO) is a sleep screening assessment tool used to evaluate blood oxygen levels and measure signs of physical distress.

The HRPO tool we use for our patients essentially tells us how much oxygen is in the blood and how much distress the body is in while sleeping. The information gathered with the HRPO tool allows us to evaluate a patient’s breathing from a physiological standpoint. HRPO gives us information about where an individual is starting and how much they are struggling, providing a quantitative benchmark to monitor and track improvement.

Waterlase® All-Tissue Laser

Our Waterlase® all-tissue dental laser helps us treat teeth and soft tissue more quickly, quietly, and comfortably when compared to traditional drilling and surgical approaches.

Our office offers laser dentistry with the Waterlase® all-tissue dental laser, which can eliminate the need for anesthesia and drills for a wide spectrum of dental procedures. Waterlase has completely revolutionized the dental experience for today’s children by improving comfort, enhancing treatment speed, reducing noise levels, and optimizing treatment outcomes. With Waterlase, our dentists can perform virtually pain-free dental fillings without drilling and the need for local anesthetic injections or chemicals. This incredible laser technology selectively removes only the decayed portion of the tooth, which allows our dentists to conserve more healthy tooth structure. Waterlase is also used to perform gum and tissue surgeries, eliminating the need for scalpels and sutures while minimizing pre- and post-operative bleeding and inflammation. Additionally, surgical incisions created with the Waterlase heal significantly faster than those made with a scalpel, and no scar tissue forms during the healing process.
